Master Water Plan Committee Members Sought

Posted on 7/24/2015 by Ron Manz 107.5 KISSFM
The Regional District of the North Okanagan has approved the terms of reference for the stakeholder advisory committee reviewing the Master Water Plan. They will now begin advertising for individuals to participate in the process, asking everyone interested to commit at least six months to it. RDNO Chief Administrative Officer David Sewell says the door is wide open to anyone. "Across the spectrum whether its residential, agricultural, commercial or industrial users on the Greater Vernon water system to sit on the committee where we will go through the Master Water Plan." Sewell says balancing the provincial regulations for water quality with borrowing requirements that are also provincial now becomes the key. "You know its going to take what it takes. If we can move it quickly great, if it takes a long time to get the information and get a plan that is supportable, then that's going to be what it takes as well." Sewell says anyone coming onto the committee will have lots of opportunity for input but the final draft will still face provincial scrutiny. "The caveat is we still have to meet Provincial legislation so there are going to be obvious constraints but most of those won't be put on here at the local level. They will require compliance with Provincial legislation." Committee meetings are scheduled to begin this September.
