North Okanagan residents could soon have another off-leash dog area and walking trail to enjoy. The Regional District of North Okanagan has an agreement in place to purchase 166 acres of the BX Ranch beneath Black Rock so it can join both the BX and Murtrie Road dog parks. RDNO Administrator David Sewell says the sale does have a subject clause. "One of the subjects is getting ALC approval to allow for the use of a sub-division off to allow for trail usage." Sewell explains what they hope to eventually do with the land that will cost $2.315 million to purchase. "In part it will link the existing BX dog park with the Mutrie dog park and then continue on a little bit further along the existing fence line for a walking trail." Sewell says this area could also be classified as off-leash."There are some environmentally sensitive areas so there may be portions of this trail that may be on-leash or no dogs. That hasn't been determined in entirety, but certainly the kind of activity between off-leash dog parks was part of the discussion," says Sewell.
