Stickle Road Decision "Weeks Away" After Meeting

A new option for the Highway 97 Stickle Road intersection will be considered by the Ministry of Transportation. Vernon Mayor Akbal Mund joined other local politicians in a meeting with ministry staff today. Mund says the idea for connecting 20th Street near RONA to the frontage road near Vernon Volkswagen, was discussed. "Now the ministry has to go back and do some traffic analysis on whether this option will work, but they are wiling to look at it which is what we wanted to get to," Mund tells Kiss FM. Vernon Monashee MLA Eric Foster says connecting 20th Street is an option for a safer north-south route for vehicles. "Now we have to do all the numbers and that kind of stuff, so we'll get together in probably another five weeks or so when the engineering people have all their information," says Foster. Mund estimates it will probably take a couple of months before any decisions are made. The ministry is also still working on an overall safety improvement for that intersection, after negative public feedback to two earlier proposals. Regional District of North Okanagan directors Mike Macnabb (Area C) and Bob Fleming (Area C) also took part in the meeting with Transportation's District Manager Murray Tekano and other ministry staff.
