Busy Transit Site Moved

Changes to one of the busiest transit routes in Vernon will take effect next month. The bus stop outside the food court at the Village Green Centre, will be moved to 48th Avenue. "The traffic at the Village Green Centre has increased over the years since the bus stop was first installed," says Mike Russell, media and public relations adviser for BC Transit. "The increased traffic within the parking lot has resulted in safety concerns for the transit operators. The safety of our customers, community members and staff is our first concern and therefore, to ensure the safety of everyone, we have collectively (BCT, City, Operator) decided to relocate the current bus stop outside the parking lot onto 48th Ave." Two new stops will be installed on 48th Ave for Feb 6th in order to service the routes that currently stop at the VGC. "We will continue to work with all parties involved on a more permanent solution," adds Russell. The Village Green Centre's management realizes the current set-up is not ideal, but they remain open to discussing a more acceptable onsite transit stop.
