Snow Budget Goes Over The Top

The cost to clear snow and ice off Vernon's streets is a big ticket item that varies from year to year, depending on Mother Nature. Public works manager James Rice says they spent more than expected last year. "In 2015 we spent $710,000, so about $50,000 over budget. And that was primarily due to the large event we had last January," Rice tells Kiss FM. About 40 centimetres fell over a two day period a year ago. The bills are still being tabulated for the latest snowfalls in 2016. City crews had been working from 4 am to 11 pm for several days after a 15-17 cm snowfall earlier this month Rice feels crews have overall done a good job so far this year.
