Mayor Rules Out Provincial Run

Don't expect Vernon's mayor to seek a higher level of political office at this time. Akbal Mund says he's heard the speculation he may run for the provincial Liberal nomination for Vernon-Monashee -- but rules it out. "I will admit that I have been asked, but at the same time, if the seat was empty, I would run, but snce Eric is there, I have no inclination to run against Eric," Mund tells Kiss FM. Current two term MLA Eric Foster has said he plans to seek a third term. "He cares about the community here, and I'm not going to run against Eric," says Mund, a former businessman who is in his first term as mayor: The next provincial election is in May 2017.
