The City of Vernon is making the O'Keefe Ranch clear about future funding levels for the heritage site. The ranch recently submitted budget documents suggesting it would be receiving 150-thousand dollars a year from the city, through 2019. Mayor Akbal Mund says council agreed to continue that amount into next year -- but after that, it starts to go down. "We did not do that for 2018-2019 so therefore we do not want the O'Keefe Ranch submitting us a document that says that the City will be carrying over that grant when we haven't decided." Mund says council has only guaranteed that amount until next year. "We want to make sure they understand that we did not okay 2017, 2018, 2019. It's only for 2017." Mund says the city plans to cut the grant to 100-thousand in 2018, and to 50-grand by 2019."We're not leaving them hanging, they're benefiting by an extra year of $150,000. That's where it sits, but I'm sure we'll have discussions during our budget meeting."
