The debate was over. The last vote was taken. The tally was 46 B.C. Liberals in favour, 35 New Democrats and Independent Vicki Huntington opposed. As the clock nudged 5:13 p.m. Thursday, Speaker of the Legislature Bill Barisoff announced the inevitable, but fateful news: "It's an act."
The B.C. Liberals had mustered their legislative majority, first to terminate debate in the legislature, then to ram through the Consumption Tax Rebate and Transition Act.
