Armstrong residents will see their tax bills rise. Council has unanimously supported the 2010 financial plan. As part of the document, residents will see a tax hike of 4.38 per cent hike in city taxes, water, sewer, garbage and recycling, along with a new $20 recreation parcel tax. This means residents on average will pay an extra $56.21 on their bills. “The percentage is a little high, but it meets the needs of our community,” said Mayor Chris Pieper. The recreation parcel tax will be used to help create a reserve fund of approximately $42,000. The money would be used for recreational infrastructure on items that require upgrades or replacement. “Every year we seem to have projects that we need capital for in recreation, and the parcel tax is the fairest way we felt to implement it,” said Pieper. Money collected from the new tax this year will go towards the completion of the new swimming pool at Memorial Park.
