Residents Paying Too Much For Water

One local politician say residents are getting soaked when it comes to the water rates. Coldstream councillor Gyula Kiss Gyula Kiss, a councillor in Coldstream and director on the Greater Vernon Advisory Committee, says 12 million dollars has been put in NORD's reserves over the last three years, due to the excessive rates. Kiss calculates customers are being charged 22 cents more per cubic meter, than they should be. He says building up the reserve to pay for water upgrades goes against the local government policy of borrowing for those projects. Kiss also maintains the Master Water Plan's original budget of 35 million dollars six years ago, will actually cost taxpayers 79 million dollars, which he calls a nightmare. The GVAC received Kiss' report for information.
