Drought Team

Greater Vernon is a step closer to forming what's being called a ``drought response team'' made up of business, the public, and ag sectors-- some of whom were outraged when the regional district went to Stage 3 restrictions so early in the year. Turf, pool and hot tub companies complained after the area went to Stage 3 restrictions, stating they had seriously hurt their businesses. Greater Vernon Advisory Committee Wayne Lippert says the reps should be able to offer advice or point out problems when coping with a drought situation. He says instead of four stages maybe there should be seven or eight. However Lippert says it will be the politicians who make the final decisions on restrictions. A proposal, from Coldstream director Doug Dirk to limit the drought team to 9 instead of what-he-called the ``unwieldy'' 15 suggested by regional district officials, was accepted.
