We've talked a lot about droughts. The City of Vernon has been asking residents and stakeholders to comment on what should be done with wastewater. Currently the City treats some of that water which is used for spray irrigation. Vernon Mayor Wayne Lippert says that one day, perhaps 20 years from now, that treated water may be recycled into our drinking water. But he says it won't happen for quite some time...partly due to our squeamish stomachs. The city plans a series of public meetings on its Liquid Waste Management Plan.

What is the next best use for our drinking water, once it has been used once in our homes?
To use it again as drinking water!
Water-wise jurisdictions around the world would be shocked to realize that the priority for treated water in Vernon is not WATER for DRINKING, but IRRIGATION for golf courses, resorts and marginal farming.
Domestic users should band together to demand the return of the domestic drinking water that they pay to USE and TREAT!
