Greater Vernon water customers should be ready for big rate hikes. 
Regional
District of North Okanagan needs 17 percent increases in each of the
next two years to fund separation and other projects. Greater Vernon Advisory Committee chair Mike Macnabb (pictured) says the elected reps are debating how to raise the money. "We definitely don't want to adversely impact some of the users, like
agriculture, to the point where they are no longer competitive, so
those are the sensitive issues we have to look at." The BX Silver Star director says they're looking at various ways to fund the work. "There's several ways you can do it, either through a rate increases,
or jumping into reserves which we are considering. Even the issue of
taxation has come up, so we are just now starting those discussions."
