City Hires New Spokesperson

Vernon City HallThe city of Vernon has a new communications officer.  Courtenay Pitcher started the position in mid-December, and will handle media relations, maintaining the city website, and helping apply for government grants. She says her other duties include "Developing a communications plan in the future, seeing if the mayor and council are interested in rolling out social media and new communications strategy." Pitcher says says one of her goals is to make sure the public gets a broad, balanced perspective on city issues. "So that the public is getting many different angles, and perhaps improving some of the perception out there about how we are communicating." Pitcher comes to the city after owning a marketing and communications company for 12 years. She also has a degree in tourism and leisure. "But I gained a lot of valuable experience volunteering as president of Vernon Women In Business and chairperson of the Woman of the Year event." The city position has been vacant since last year when Liz Williams retired.
