Police Interested In Sturgis Talks

Gord MolendykRCMP are waiting with interest to see if a major music festival and motorbike rally is held in the North Okanagan this summer.  A promoter plans to hold Sturgis North at the MotoPlex Speedway in Spallumcheen in July, although a final deal has not been reached.Last year's event was a financial flop, but did bring 40-thousand bikers to Salmon Arm, including members of the Hells Angels.  RCMP spokesman Gord Molendyk (pictured) says if it was held here, it would be a policing issue, based on last year. "I know that the police were kept busy, and of course we will be in touch with Salmon Arm where it was hosted last year, but until some things are concrete and we know for sure it's coming, there really isn't much we can comment on." Promoter Roy Sasseville says having enough room for all the events and camping at one site should allow him to avoid the up to 400-thousand dollars incurred last year.
