Wendy's Dreamlift Day surpasses $1 million

Wednesday's Wendy's Dreamlift Day is one to remember.  The event raised a record $114,276 at the nine Wendy's restaurants in the Thompson-Okanagan, bringing the cumulative total to $1.1 million since the event began in 1995. "We've done it and it's great," said Akbal Mund, with Inland Restaurants, the Wendy's franchisee. "It's truly a community event." The money will help the Sunshine Foundation of Canada send children with severe physical disabilities or life-threatening illnesses to Disneyland for a day. As part of this year's Dreamlift Day, Wendy Thomas, daughter of Wendy's founder Dave Thomas, visited every restaurant in the region. "I'm just in awe of how people will wait in line for an hour to come to have a hamburger and be part of the whole thing of giving back to the community. It's the foundation of its success," she said.
