It appears more people are parking the car and biking to work this week around Vernon.Wendy Majewski from the City of Vernon says 131 cyclists stopped at a celebration-station on Kal Lake Road this morning, as part of Bike To Work week. She says the riders were able to have a snack and a drink."I want to thank Sun Country Cycle (site of event), Shuswap Coffee for donating the coffee, and Canada Safeway for the bagels and cream cheese." Majewski says the turnout was up 45 percent from last year when 90 cyclists checked in. A wrap-up BBQ will be held Friday afternoon from 4:30 to 6:30 at Spirit Square between Vernon City Hall and the old library. The North Okanagan is one of 23 BC communities with Bike to Work events. Check www.biketowork.ca for more details.

Wow,135 cyclists out a population of 40,000+.

Perhaps next we can expect to hear that all Service Stations and related Auto Repair shops will close one day a week in support of ride your bicycle to work.
