An event to promote Bike to Work Week ended up with a city councillor being injured.Catherine Lord was among more than 100 participants taking part in a ride from 48th Avenue to Vernons' downtown around 8 this morning. All the details aren't known, but her bike either got cut off or clipped, and she hit the pavement, suffering cuts and road rash, and had to be taken to hospital for treatment. She was attended to at the scene by Vernon Mayor Rob Sawatzky, who is a retired physician. Coldstream Mayor Jim Garlick also had an incident where a saddlebag on his bike was clipped by a vehicle. Wendy Majewski, Transportation Demand Management Coordinator with the City of Vernon, says the vehicle was trying to turn right and touched Garlick's saddlebag. "He's a good cyclist, and he was able to retain his balance and keep going. It was a vehicle related incident. The vehicle did not yield to the cyclist." Majewski says the offending vehicle, a white van, did not stop.
