Vernon's mayor says concerns about the city possibly discharging treated wastewater into Okanagan Lake are surprising. The city is updating its liquid waste management plan, and one of the options is using the lake for reclaimed water, which other Okanagan cities do. Rob Sawatzky says the lake option would only be for emergencies, the same as current policy. He says "The waters clean to the level now that it could be done, but it's certainly is not in any part of the major discussion of what our major policy choices would be." Sawatzky says adding more areas for spray irrigation is a more important topic for discussion. The city holds an info-input session on the waste management plan tomorrow at the Performing Arts Centre.
