Several people were taken to hospital in Vernon Sunday night after three cars were hit while driving on Bella Vista Road in Okanagan Landing. Vernon RCMP Spokesperson, Gord Molendyk says just before 9:00PM members of the North Okanagan Traffic services were called to a motor vehicle accident at Bella Vista and Davidson Road. He says Officers identified driver of a grey 2002 Toyota Camry, as the owner. She was still in the vehicle and admitted to recent consumption of alcohol. The 21 year old woman is a Novice driver. She was read ASD demand as open liquor containers were also found in the vehicle. The ASD administered, and the officers obtained a FAIL result. The driver was detained for Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle. The driver has been charged with drive over.08. He says the investigation has determined that she had been travelling east on Bella Vista Road, texting while driving and collided with a westbound 2010 red Jeep which left the roadway after being hit. She then collided with a third vehicle also westbound on Bella Vista. Our officers are continuing to investigate this crash. Several occupants were taken to hospital as a precaution, no major injuries resulted. The driver has been released on a Promise to Appear to appear in court at a later date for the impaired driving charges, she has also received traffic violations for texting while driving.
