City Removes Film-TV Option

Vernon council is making a longer term commitment to the Okanagan Film Commission. The Kelowna-based agency attracts TV and movie productions to the valley, but until now, Vernon council had kept its option open to withdraw from funding the regional function each year. Councillor Juliette Cunningham led a motion to remove that, saying the uncertainty each year didn't sit well with their RDNO partners. She says, "It creates that sense at the regional district that, if they're going to do that, then I'm going to put my notice (to withdraw from a function) on this, and it just creates a lot of upheaval." Councillor Bob Spiers voted against the motion, noting without the option, it's a 16-month process if the city ever did want to pull-out of the function.
