New Gallery Still In Works

The former BC Games office on 31st Ave is where a new art gallery could go Plans are still being developed for a new Vernon Public Art Gallery.  Executive director Dauna Kennedy Grant says getting the funding for such a project takes time, and requires commitments from a lot of groups. She says, "It's a work in progress. Putting capital projects through takes times, and takes  a committment from a lot of different people." The new facility would be three stories and 18,000 square feet. It would cost about 5 million dollars and could be located on the former Vernon Flower Shop site on 31st Avenue, across from Cenotaph Park, which is owned by the city. Grant says one of the next steps will be getting support from the regional district. "We will doing a presentation to the regional district in the near future so that we can look at a commitment at that level, to move the project forward." Gallery officials have long said their current facility on 31 Ave under the parkade is not large enough for their needs. The society received a $50,000 grant from the BC government for planning work on the project.
