Ironman decision pushed back

The World Triathlon Corporation (WTC) is now expected to announce Friday morning (Oct. 12) if Whistler will be awarded an Ironman triathlon event next year. The WTC, which operates Ironman-branded events, had originally said the winning community would be revealed Wednesday (Oct. 10), but Tourism Whistler officials confirmed Wednesday that the announcement is now scheduled for Friday. Whistler is one of three communities still in the running to host Canada’s next Ironman event, up against Kelowna and Huntsville, Ont. The new race will replace the one previously held annually in Penticton for 30 years. Check www.whistlerquestion.com on Friday to see if Whistler’s bid was selected.
