Vernon and Armstrong are the latest to offer support to a regional district request for the Upper Room Mission. The social agency on 27th Avenue is asking RDNO to cover a $9,200 water line bill, but the board doesn't have a grant function, so it's asking all members for approval. Armstrong Mayor Chris Pieper says their portion would be $400, which they've approved, even though their policy doesn't allow them to support functions out of the community. "But we do know that the Upper Room Mission services people in the whole North Okanagan," Pieper tells Kiss FM. Vernon is also willing to put up it's share, $4,885, and has referred it to its finance committee to determine where the funds come from. Councillor Catherine Lord noted the city also gives the Mission a tax exemption. "They do excellent work, but I'm just wondering at what point do we draw the line?" Enderby council has also said yes to providing its portion, about $221.
DON QUIXOTE VS. CITY HALL When an American gets mad, he says "where's my Gun". When a Canadian gets pissed off he says "Where is my pen, I'm going to send a letter to the EDITOR". When the EDITOR won't publish his letter he sets up his own BLOG page. When I received enough support to get a Council Seat the dogma of the establishment became : "Better to have him inside the tent pissing out, than outside pissing in." (Only time will tell !)
