Randy KolibabaIt's the end of one career, but the start of another for one of the top RCMP officers in the Okanagan.  Vernon resident Randy Kolibaba -- the  superintendent of the Southeast District Traffic Service -- retires from the force Wednesday. "I believe I've had an excellent career. I've been with the RCMP for 34 years. I've served in three different provinces. I've worked with the United Nations (in Kosovo), and got to experience a great deal." The 53 year old Kolibaba started his policing career in Calgary as a constable in 1978, will soon start a new job as manager of protective services for the Fraser Health Authority. "This covers all four of the Lower Mainland health authorities and (will be) an incredible challenge." Kolibaba will be presented with the Queens Diamond Jubilee Medal Wednesday for outstanding service to the community for his contributions with the Vernon and District Community Land Trust,  and for his service to Canada, for developing an alternative justice program in Saskatchewan to deal with First Nations people in the court system. Kolibaba's wife, Susan, also an RCMP officer, will continue to work at the Vernon detachment. While he will be working at the coast, Kolibaba still plans to make Vernon his home base. Kolibaba was the detachment commander in Vernon for five years, and has worked with the Southeast District for seven years.
