Ongoing provincial downloading is a source of frustration for local officials. Regional District of North Okanagan directors agreed
Wednesday to increase the funding available for the victims assistance
program because Ministry of Justice grants have not kept pace
with growing costs. "By approving this, this lets the ministry off of the hook," said director Chris Pieper. The ministry has also required increased service levels, including coverage in Falkland although it is outside of RDNO. To ensure there are sufficient resources for
2013, RDNO will increase the available funding for the program from
$120,000 to $140,000. Directors also want to meet with Vernon-Monashee MLA Eric Foster to discuss the situation. Look for more details in Friday's Morning Star.

Don Quixote Note: Vernon's share of the $120,000 in 2012 was $58,210 (48.5%). Coldstream's share was $15,338 (12.8%).
