Okanagan Landing Fire volunteers are pleased with the public support they've received in their battle with City Hall. Todd Montgomery, the group's president, says over 500 people came to their open house Sunday and 450 signed their petition calling for the city to not cancel their contract in January. He says they will keep collecting names before taking it to council at some point. "There's a lot of people who don't want to see our contract be passed over to the Vernon Volunteer Association. They want to see our association and everything we do stay alive. That includes our name and what we stand for, and the model that we are." The petition --which is also on their website-- says the volunteers provide a valuable service to the community, at a bargain price to taxpayers. The city plans to cancel the group's contract at the end of January, and integrate them with Vernon.
DON QUIXOTE VS. CITY HALL When an American gets mad, he says "where's my Gun". When a Canadian gets pissed off he says "Where is my pen, I'm going to send a letter to the EDITOR". When the EDITOR won't publish his letter he sets up his own BLOG page. When I received enough support to get a Council Seat the dogma of the establishment became : "Better to have him inside the tent pissing out, than outside pissing in." (Only time will tell !)
