A legal loophole has been closed to ensure publicly-owned land behind the Regional District of North Okanagan office in Coldstream, remains for parks. Greater Vernon Advisory Committee director Bob Spiers says the committee approved a reverter clause covering the wetlands that the region sold to Coldstream last year. "If that land ever was used for any other purpose except for parks, NORD would have the right to demand the land back. That's all the reverter was. It's just a legal way of protecting it to be park for all time." GVAC chair Mike Macnabb  called it a "cleanup issue." The action comes a few months after former Vernon councillor Barry Beardsell asked GVAC why Coldstream was ready to give the land -- which was once worth a million dollars -- to a developer, for a road.
