Local government will consider buying new parkland in Greater Vernon. 166 acres of farm land next to BX Ranch Park has gone on the market, with a price tag of 3.2 million dollars. At the request of the BX Swan Lake Community Association, Greater Vernon Advisory Committee directors have agreed to discuss buying the land, but not yet. They will wait until there's more progress in an ongoing review of the parks and recreation function, with a memorandum of understanding expected to be signed soon. Director Jim Garlick says the committee would be just "muddying the waters" if they discussed land purchases before getting to a certain point in the review. The next meeting on the review is November 20th. Ray Ivey, past president of the BX Community Association says in a letter, the 166 acres is level, productive and irrigated with a house and barn on the property. "It is zoned farm land in the agricultural land reserve, country residential, and is currently being used for grass and alfalfa hay production."
