Interim administrator named for Spallumcheen

A familiar name in North Okanagan governance has been named the interim chief administrative officer for the Township of Spallumcheen.  Greg Betts, who served 15 years as the CAO for the District of Coldstream, and five years with the Regional District of North Okanagan – the last three as CAO – started his duties Thursday. “I think it’s an exciting opportunity to work with the community,” said Betts. “It’s a good staff to work with, the council looks like it’s progressive and I’m looking forward to helping them move forward.” Betts will work at the township office Tuesday through Thursday, and will be present at Monday night meetings. He is committed to finishing off a consulting contract with the City of Enderby on a sustainability initiative. Betts replaces Lynda Shykora, who was terminated by the township in October after nearly eight years on the job. “With Greg’s background in local government, he was able to walk right in this morning and get started,” said Spallumcheen Mayor Janice Brown Thursday. “His experience level will be great.” Betts will stay with the township through its budget process into 2013. Brown said he will also be asked to help prepare, shortlist and interview for a full-time CAO for the township come June 2013.
