Road checkJust like Christmas trees and Auld Lang Syne, Counter Attack is also a part of the holiday season.  The RCMP's Gord Molendyk says the anti drinking driving campaign started over the weekend to coincide with the kick off of office parties and other festive gatherings. "We had ten people (last week) who lost their licenses, several of them with three day (immediate roadside) suspensions, but the others were given 90 day suspensions, and that's going to cost them big time," says Molendyk. Molendyk expects to see about ten alcohol-related driving suspensions a week over the holiday season, as he says, there's still drivers that will take the chance. "So plan ahead, and think before you get behind the wheel. Road checks will be held all around the North Okanagan." It's the 35th year for Counter Attack road checks in the province. Police are also asking drivers --and pedestrians-- to be very careful if on the roadways. "We get very dark by 4 o' clock now, and there's been some pedestrian MVA's, and this time of year, there's a greater potential of pedestrians being hit. Molendyk says drivers and pedestrians both need to pay attention, especially at crosswalks where walkers should make eye contact with the driver before they step off the curb.
