The director for BX-Swan Lake wants to make parkland acquisitions a priority for Greater Vernon politicians next year. Bob Fleming says that type of planning was put on the back burner this year, while the parks function was being sorted out. "There's been all kinds of proposals brought forward by different interest groups that have different ideas about which particular park land should be acquired. I think we have to start considering those quickly, and make some decisions." Fleming's notice of motion to discuss the issue will be held at the Greater Vernon Advisory Committee's January 3rd meeting. Fleming says there is money available to buy parkland, from an earlier referendum. "There's some pressure that money has been borrowed to be spent on park land acquisition. We're paying the interest on the money, but park land hasn't been acquired." Fleming says a proposal to buy 166 acres of land next to BX Ranch Park is one of the possibilities. The ranch land recently was put up for sale for $3.2 million.
