Lumby liquor store one of many that receives invasive bugs from China
A major story is beginning to unfold in British Columbia, and MVS is asking tough questions. MVS had learned that the Lumby Liquor Distribution Store became a destination for an invasive insect species from China. Brown fir longhorned beetles had infested Christmas decorations that were provided to the store by the main B.C. Liquor Distribution Branch (LDB).

While the agency has admitted to the insect being in Christmas decorations that it sent to its LDB outlets throughout the province, there has yet to be a comment regarding an alleged powder that may have also appeared mixed in with the decorations; some are speculating that this may have been a pesticide.

But now it appears this story has legs of its own as MVS asks: Can the Canadian Food Inspection Agency confirm accurate findings regarding the infestation? What immediate response is being made to combat the infestation that includes all LDB stores and point of entries? Was there a powder present in the shipments – was it a potentially toxic substance?

An additional question is emerging as to why the provincial agency purchased nearly $200,000 worth of wood and pinecone Christmas decorations from China in the first place?

What an incredible story to read as it unfolds at MVS.
