B.C. Conservative leader Cummins to run in Langley in May election

B.C. Conservative Leader John Cummins will run in the riding of Langley in the May election, challenging incumbent cabinet minister Mary Polak in the traditional Liberal stronghold. “It’s a tall order, no question about it,” Cummins said Friday of the showdown with Polak, who won the riding comfortably in 2009. “But I think the bigger challenge will be for all Liberal candidates in every riding. People have had enough of the mismanagement and scandals.” Cummins moved to Langley two years ago after representing Delta as a federal MP for 19 years. He said some supporters wanted him to run in Delta again. “But Langley is my home now, and I will be very comfortable running where I live. It’s the right thing to do. We’re very excited and we’re ready to go.” Polak, the transportation minister, has represented Langley since 2005. She was re-elected handily in 2009, taking 56 per cent of the vote. The second-place NDP candidate got 35 per cent, while the Conservatives did not field a candidate. (more)
