About 20 Okanagan Landing volunteers firefighters will call it quits at the end of this month. That's when the city's contract with the group runs out, and a new service model begins. Todd Montgomery, who speaks for about 20 disgruntled members, says they're done fighting the change, and are making plans for the future community service. "Our association will be relocating to...we'll just rent something for the time being until we can find a new purpose. We still own the fire boat, so maybe we'll be a history society or join forces with search and rescue. At this point, it's totally unknown. We don't have funding and we don't have a purpose so we might just dissolve over the next six months," he tells Kiss FM. Montgomery says 6 to 8 volunteers will join the Vernon association under the new model. Montgomery says they're planning an event on Sunday January 27th to remove the firehall sign which he says they will take with them. "The Okanagan Landing Volunteer Fire Department sign which was made out of wood by the hands of the volunteers that built that firehall, the association is going to take it with them and we'll post a memorial, maybe down by Paddlewheel Park Hall." Montgomery expects the city will rename the hall, possibly City of Vernon-Station Two. The association's partnership with the city dates back 37 years.
