John
Cummins today announced that he had established a BC Conservative Public
Finance Committee, with Scott Anderson, the party's candidate in
Vernon-Monashee, as chair. Joining Anderson as members of the committee will be Bob Bray, the
nominated candidate in North Island, and Michael Henshall, a candidate
for nomination in Chilliwack-Hope. "The Public Finance committee is the first of several - all
composed of our 2013 election candidates - to be announced in the coming
days and weeks," said Cummins, leader of the BC Conservatives. "Among other topics, this inaugural committee will look at why
B.C.'s debt has doubled under the NDP, and then doubled again under the
BC Liberals, and why it has been so difficult for either of the
old-guard parties to balance the budget." Cummins added that the Public Finance Committee would examine a
number of new ideas and proposals to incorporate into the party's 2013
election platform. Anderson, a Vernon resident, has a B.A. (Honours) in International
Relations from the University of Manitoba. In 2006, after several years
in financial services and corporate sales, he founded a communications
company that now serves corporate clients around the globe. He has considerable political experience, having worked as a
legislative assistant to a Member of Parliament, and serving as a
campaign manager in two federal elections.
Bray has a B.A. from the University of British Columbia and a MBA
from Simon Fraser University. Now retired in Campbell River, he had a
lengthy and varied business career, which included stints as an
executive with the Arthritis Society, the University of British Columbia
and Trev Deeley Motorcycles.
Henshall, who lives in Rosedale, near Chilliwack, obtained his
real-estate license from the University of British Columbia's Sauder
School of Business (Real Estate Division), where he's currently
completing a property management program. A born-entrepreneur, he owned and operated a local business for
seven years before embarking in 2005 on a successful real-estate career.
