A Vernon campaign to protect property and save lives will be recognized by B.C.'s Justice Minister. Shirley Bond will be at the Vernon Fire Rescue hall this morning for a special ceremony. "(She will) congratulate Vernon on an excellent smoke alarm campaign targeting seniors and manufactured home parks," says City of Vernon spokesperson Courtenay Pitcher. Bond will also hand out a Queen's Diamond Jubilee medal to a local fire service leader, and all area fire departments are invited to attend the 10:45 am event. Bond wil also be the feature speaker at a Greater Vernon Chamber of Commerce breakfast at the Schubert Centre from 8 to 9am. Meantime, Forests Minister Steve Thomson will present Dr. Mike Carlson with a Queen's Diamond Jubilee medal for his public service, especially in reforestation, this morning at the Kalamalka Forestry Centre.
