The city of Vernon has won an award for its financial reporting.
The Government Finance Officers Association of the USA and Canada says its Canadian award goes to the city's for the 2011 annual financial report, calling it high quality, and demonstrating a "spirit of full disclosure." A Canadian Review Committee says the report was "designed to clearly communicate the municipality's financial story and to motivate potential user groups to read the report." Kevin Bertles, Vernon's Director of Finance says, "I am very happy to accept this award on behalf of the City of Vernon." Vernon Mayor Rob Sawatzky, said, "This award is a result of a great team effort by several departments, especially the Finance department, and underscores the professionalism and dedication of staff."
