Efforts are being made to control staff costs at Vernon City Hall, although the figures for this year are in dispute. Administrator Will Pearce says the plan is for no new net staff positions for the next three years, until 2015. Mayor Rob Sawatzky says it's already made a difference. "The commitment that's been made a number of times in writing and verbally has been no new net positions, and in fact, we are, I believe at 13 positions less than we were a year ago," says Sawatzky. Sawatzky says the word 'net' is important because positions that are needed can still be created, provided another one is eliminated. Councillor Bob Spiers says the math doesn't add up to him, as he believes at least one staff position has been added this year. "It's just a matter of how they finance it." Spiers says changing which department pays for a staff member isn't getting rid of the position. However, he likes the staff direction. "That's probably one of the best benefits to come out of the core report that pretty well freezes staff levels."
DON QUIXOTE VS. CITY HALL When an American gets mad, he says "where's my Gun". When a Canadian gets pissed off he says "Where is my pen, I'm going to send a letter to the EDITOR". When the EDITOR won't publish his letter he sets up his own BLOG page. When I received enough support to get a Council Seat the dogma of the establishment became : "Better to have him inside the tent pissing out, than outside pissing in." (Only time will tell !)
