Most costs are going up, but some users of Greater Vernon's recreation facilities will see decreases this fall. Greater Vernon Advisory Committee chair Mike Macnabb says ice rental
fees will drop a few dollars an hour as Vernon looks to compete with
cheaper rates in Enderby and Armstrong. "The rationale was that other facilities are charging less and
therefore a lot of folks are using those facilities rather than using
the ice at Kal Tire Place," says Macnabb. The rental rates will also go down at the Civic and Priest Valley arenas. Meantime, public swimming and public skating fees will rise between
10 and 15 cents a person, to compensate for a 2.6% increase in
operational costs covering wages, utilities and materials. The new rates take effect September 1.
