Thousands of litres of potentially dangerous chemicals have been turned in to North Okanagan officials for safe disposal. It was part of the annual Hazardous Waste Round Up in Vernon, Lumby and Enderby. RDNO's Recycling and Disposal Facilities Manager Dale Danallanko says 127 drums and 146 pails were filled with things like waste oil, flammables, fuel, antifreeze, poisons, and corrosives, while 53 car batteries, 95 kg of household batteries, and 11 thousand litres of paint were also handed over for safe disposal. "If you missed this year's Round Up, take advantage of the year-round disposal options for many common household items. Chasers Bottle Depot, located at 4702 – 31st Street in Vernon accepts many household pesticides, paint and flammable liquids from residents at no charge, year round. Paint can also be dropped off, at no charge year round, at Armstrong Collision Services in Armstrong, KBM Autoworks and Towing in Lumby, and Interior Freight and Bottle Depot in Vernon," says Danallanko. Danallanko says the event would not be possible without the support of volunteers from the Enderby and Vernon Lions Clubs, and fire fighters from the Enderby and Lumby Volunteer Departments. "Staff from Newalta and the Battery Doctors also worked hard throughout the day to ensure residents were served quickly and safely,"added Danallanko.
