First, he learns from the man who will be his predecessor. Then, the job is his. The Township of Spallumcheen has appointed Salmon Arm’s Corey Paiement as the township’s deputy chief administrative officer, effective Feb. 24. After a six-month transition period working under the direction of current chief administrative officer Greg Betts, Paiement will assume the CAO role Aug. 24. “Council is looking forward to working with Corey to continue many of the initiatives begun during the past year,” said Spallumcheen Mayor Janice Brown. “We are confident Corey’s experience and background will serve him well in the future, as he provides sound leadership for council and staff and works to further the community’s interests.” Paiement brings a varied combination of education, skills and knowledge to the township. That includes 15 years of local government experience having worked in successively senior positions in four local governments in B.C. He is the corporate officer with the City of Salmon Arm, and prior to that he was Salmon Arm’s director of development services and approving officer. “I’m kind of sad to go, it’s a big decision,” said Paiement of his impending departure. “Not that I was looking to leave per se, so I applied and followed through with the process. It seemed like a good fit for what I have to offer and where they are and where they’re moving into the future.” Betts will stay on with the township in a consulting role. He became CAO in December 2012.
