Kelowna City Councillor, Colin Basran, is expected to make it official. Basran has called a news conference for Tuesday morning where he is expected to announce he is running for mayor. The first term councillor has made no secret over the past few weeks about his desire to seek the mayor's chair. On March 19, current mayor, Walter Gray stated his intention not to seek re-election. "I am certainly interested and looking into it," Basran stated back on March 20. "I guess my next step now that we know Walter is no longer running would be to gauge the community. I'll be talking to members of our community to see if I have some support there." Current council-mate, Gail Given, has also stated she is interested in making a mayoral bid. Other people considering a run for mayor include former two-term mayor, Sharon Shepherd and former councillor, Carol Gran. Municipal elections will be held November 15.
