Feedback Offered On Ice Sheet Options

Proposals for a new ice sheet in Greater Vernon were reviewed by 25 people at an open house Wednesday night. The city's Recreation services manager Doug Ross says they had a lot of interesting comments. "People were supplying us with information about different types of amenities they would like to see in the facilities, and the quality of facilities they would like to see. There was also quite a bit of feedback about not just one new ice sheet, but two sheets of ice being added," Ross tells Kiss FM. Ross says they're holding a focus group session with stake holders next, such as the Vipers, minor hockey, ringette and speed skating, to determine what they'd like to see. From there, the options will be narrowed down. The whole package will end up before voters this fall on the ice sheet as well as the fate of the Civic Arena. Options include adding an ice sheet at Kal Tire Place or the Priest Valley Arena, or using a stand alone facility.
