$13M Arena Referendum Set For Fall

Greater Vernon residents will be voting on a proposal for a new ice sheet this fall. At a special meeting today, Greater Vernon Advisory Committee directors unanimously decided to hold a referendum November 15th on borrowing up to 13 million dollars for adding a second ice rink onto the north end of Kal Tire Place. That option was deemed the most feasible among the five that were looked at, with adding onto the Priest Valley Arena (both east and west sides), adding onto the west side of Kal Tire Place, and a stand-alone facility, the others. If approved, the new facility would replace the ice use at the 77 year old Civic Arena which consultants have said will need millions in upgrades to keep it functional.
