Greater Vernon residents can continue to access farm-fresh produce Friday afternoons although a new location has taken root. The Vernon Friday Night Market has ceased operations at the Village Green Centre and is now part of the Avenue Market, which takes place Fridays from 4 to 7 p.m. on 30th Avenue downtown. “Our vendors were moving one by one downtown and we were down to seven and some of them wanted to go as well,” said Eugene Rohrer, one of the Vernon Friday Night Market organizers. “We hope all of our customers will go downtown.” The Avenue Market began May 9. “Everything has been awesome,” said Lara Konkin, executive director of the Downtown Vernon Association, which organizes Avenue Market. “It’s the best thing we have done. Our businesses are more than thrilled and they are doing lots of business Friday nights.” Konkin is pleased with the participation of local farmers. “Having them join forces helps us create 10-times a better market,” she said. “I see it as a partnership with them.”
