They may not have a federal licence for medical marijuana production yet, but Tru Leaf Medicine has a development permit for Lumby's first such facility. Mayor Kevin Acton says there was no opposition to the application. "I know they've been working very hard to make this happen. They truly believe in the use of medical marijuana, and they think it's a viable business, so they've been very active in making this happen,"Acton tells Kiss FM. The growing facility would be in the village's industrial park, the only area allowed under zoning. Tru Leaf's board is chaired by former B.C. premier Mike Harcourt. "They are a pretty big company with quite a big of backing, so I would think, if it's going to happen, these will be the type of people that will make it happen," says Acton. Tru Leaf is still waiting for approval from Health Canada for a license to grow medical marijuana.
