A review of Greater Vernon's master water plan will get underway this fall, and today is the deadline for the public to apply to be part of that. A stakeholders advisory committee will include 14 members including four from the residential sector, two from agriculture, and two from commercial. Greater Vernon Advisory Committee chair Juliette Cunningham says as of last week, 18 people had applied for the volunteer positions. She says the review -- which could take six months and involves monthly meetings -- will include a lot of technical information. "Most of (the committee members) won't be engineers, so that's the challenge that we have, to sort through all of that, and at the end of it, make the best decision," says Cunningham. The review will determine if a new direction is needed for the water plan. A failed water referendum last November for six water projects, led to the re-evaluation. "The awareness has been raised significantly, so I'm glad to see there's an interest because at the end of it, we need the buy-in from our stakeholders," adds Cunningham. The other members of the committee will include one rep from GVAC, two from non domestic that provides service such as the hospital, one from major industrial, one from the developer class, and one from a local service group.
