Thirteen arts and culture and sports groups in Vernon and two in Lumby are receiving $421,100 from the province’s Community Gaming Grants program.
Lumby and District Figure Skating Club: $7,500;
Lumby and District Minor Amateur Hockey Association: $15,400;
Greater Vernon Minor Hockey Association: $75,000;
Okanagan Extreme Lacrosse League: $10,000;
Vernon Ski Club: $25,000;
Vernon Curling and Athletic Club: $52,000;
Vernon Volleyball Association: $14,000;
Cross-Country B.C.: $56,500;
Vernon District Pony Club: $ $2,400;
Vernon Public Art Gallery Society: $43,500;
Sadok Ukrainian Dance Ensemble of Vernon: $6,000;
North Valley Gymnastics Society: $36,800;
Arts Council of the North Okanagan: $35,000;
Vernon Figure Skating Club: $15,000;
Vernon Kokanee Swim Club: $27,000.
“Sports and arts groups such as these improve the quality of life in our communities,” Vernon-Monashee MLA Eric Foster said. “Our government is proud to provide this funding that enables young people to participate in many organized activities, and allows families and individuals to enjoy our vibrant arts and sports scenes.” Every year, the provincial government approves $135 million in gaming grants that benefit more than 5,000 local non-profit organizations that serve communities throughout British Columbia.
