Soft Opening For Athletics Park

The public is invited to try out the new Greater Vernon Athletics Park. A soft opening for the track and artificial turf field next to Okanagan College, starting at 10 Friday morning. Volunteers will be at the park from 10 am to 7 pm to welcome visitors and answer any questions. The track and artificial turf field will become available for use by the public after Friday with those areas open for use from dawn until dusk every day. Use of the facility is free of charge, unless it is booked for exclusive use through the Recreation Centre. The change-rooms and rest of the facility will be completed in time for the grand opening event, on Saturday September 26th. The $7.5 million dollar venue was approved by voters in April 2013 in a Greater Vernon referendum, and ran into cost overruns. The final bill will be released later this year.
